Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is a traditional fighting contest patterned after games such as the Street Fighter II and Mortal Kombat series. Why all the fighting, you ask? It's simple, really. Rita Repulsa, the evil intergalactic sorceress, is plotting to control the universe. Unfazed by her repulsiveness, the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, those colorfully clad teenage super heroes, vow to thwart her attack. These martial arts experts never back down from a challenge. This particular challenge won't be easy, though, as Ms. Repulsa has brainwashed a Green Ranger into helping carry out her evil plans.

Your job is to take on the role of any of the Power Rangers and fight your way through seven stages of Rita Repulsa's evil horde of creatures, including Cyclopsis, Goldar, Minotaur, and Madam Woe. At certain times during the game you can fight as a Dragonzord or a Megazord. Like most fighting games, each character has his or her own special moves and weapons. For example: Pink Ranger has a Dino Arrow and can perform a Knee Whip; Minotaur has Fire Breath, a Tornado Charge, a Power Wall, and a Jack Knife Tackle at his disposal; and Black Ranger has a Spinning Axe, and can execute a Hurricane Tackle. Each of the Power Rangers is equipped with a Power Gun.

In addition to the one-player scenario mode described above, this game features a two-player battle mode. This mode lets you and and a friend each control the Power Ranger, Zord, or monster of your choice (with a couple of exceptions) and battle it out with one another in a duel to the finish.

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is based on a low-budget, mega-merchandised children's television program that reached its peak of popularity during the early-mid 1990s.
